    Support Group for Caregivers

It is recommended for every caregiver to join a support group with other caregivers to provide an opportunity to discuss common situations and events, get advice and offer it, and even vent about frustration or difficulties within caregiving. If you are a caregiver and you are starting to feel helpless, is important for you to reach an understanding that you are not alone; that other people have made the same noble choice to be a caregiver and go through the ups and downs of care-giving on a regular basis. Support groups are a great option for caregivers to feel a sense of belonging and talk about providing care with others who have shared the same or similar experience.

At Oxnard Family Circle Adult Day Health Care, we provide respite for caregivers in Ventura County and hold support groups for caregivers twice a month. We offer advice on coping skills and give caregivers a more detailed look at what their loved one is experiencing, especially in the case of memory deficient, demented and Alzheimer’s participants.

We help remind caregivers how to balance emotional reaction with rational reaction: a demented person may claim that you are not providing sufficient care, and from an emotional standpoint this accusation hurts. But offering a more rational approach can help caregivers address if they are truly taking steps to provide sufficient care and how to respond appropriately to the situation.

Nurses, social workers, speech therapists, counselors, and other staff are always available for questions on care-giving at home and to talk with caregivers if they are struggling with burnout. At Oxnard Family Circle, our goal is to ensure that both you and your loved one are happy and healthy. Our center strongly recommends that all caregivers join a support group and that they leave time for themselves to relax on a daily basis. Oxnard Family Circle is happy to be the helping hand in care-giving.

Oxnard Family Circle Support Groups are held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. For information, please call (805) 385-4180 or visit us at 2100 Outlet Center Drive, Suite 380, Oxnard California 93036.
