On Thursday, May 1st, 2014 some of our participants took part in the 2014 Senior Art Show hosted by Meditech Health Services. The event, open to any senior over the age of 65, was held from 5-7 pm. This years theme was “Swinging On a Star.” The event was held in the Education Room of the Medictech Health Services at 1650 Palma Dr Suite 101 in Ventura, CA, 93003.
During this event original art work from seniors throughout Ventura County was displayed. Those in attendance were able to meet with the artist of the pieces while mingling and enjoying hors d’oeuvres and wine. During this time guest were also encouraged to cast a vote for their favorite pieces.
In total 41 senior artist from 12 senior communities spanning from Agoura to Ojai took part in the event. Girl Scout Troop #60205 was there in support of the senior art, and also assisted by serving approximately 90 guests or more. We commend the troop for a job well-done and for supporting such a wonderful event. In all it was a beautiful event in which we got to see various forms of artistic expression, each and every one unique from the rest.
Below are a couple of pieces submitted by some of the participants from Oxnard Family Circle:
Some of the pieces submitted were created and completed here at our center. We encourage our participants to be creative and we love that they are able to express themselves through various forms of art. Oxnard Family Circle ADHC believes art is an amazing form of expression and it is vital in promoting stimulation especially for our participants. Some of our participants in this art show included veterans Abel Moreno and Bill Watt as well as others. Every one of our participants that took part in the event created pieces that were amazing and beautiful. We are glad to see that they can convey themselves in such creative ways.
Mark Ivanov, a participant here at Oxnard Family Circle, won 3rd place for his artwork. We congratulate Mark for his win and are proud to see him able to express himself so well. His piece of art was truly amazing and we cannot wait to see what else he will create.
Below are pictures of the top winner for the night (name unknown):
Oxnard Family Circle ADHC loves events that highlight senior abilities and talents. It is important to remember that aging and getting older isn’t an impediment and that it does not mean older adults can longer do things they love. Rather the older one gets the more time they have to dedicate to activities they enjoyed all their life, but had little time to actually do. We applaud all who took part in this event, especially the seniors for having the bravery and courage to display their work and stand proudly beside it. We’d also like to thank Meditech Health Services for hosting this wonderful event and we hope that it continues for years to come.
