Josephine* spends a lot of time and energy caring for her husband, who is a participant at Oxnard Family Circle Adult Day Health Care Center. Her husband, a veteran who was once an IT tech, suffered a severe stroke and can hardly operate a remote control.
Now her husband is disabled and cannot contribute as much financially, Josephine is constantly feeling the stress of finances as well as caregiving. These factors are taking a toll on Josephine’s life and well-being, and she is not aware of the benefits of home support, the Veteran’s Agency, and other programs that she and her husband could be eligible for.
Many people who are caregivers do not expect to become caregivers, and even those who do are not aware of all the programs and support groups available to help seniors and caregivers alike. Some, like Josephine, are caregivers for veterans and do not utilize the benefits that the Veteran’s Agency has to offer simply because they are not informed about them. It is in the best interest of caregivers to look into the benefits that could be given to them and their loved ones to help save money and reduce stress. Different families in different situations may be able to receive help from a number of the following organizations:
Caregiver resources:
Alzheimer’s Foundation of America
