On Saturday, October 26th 2013, Oxnard Family Circle Adult Day Health Care Center held our annual Empowering the Caregiver Resource Fair. Over 100 participants and their family members joined us to gain valuable information on dementia care, home health, adult day health care, hospice care and legal matters.
We would like to remind caregivers that they are not alone if they feel as though they are struggling in their efforts to provide care for their loved ones. Many caregivers feel worn out, helpless, or a bit lost, and most don’t know about the abundance of resources available for additional help.
Some of these resources include the following:
-Sign up for “Caregiver Tips & Tools,” the Alzheimer’s Association’s monthly newsletter for caregivers, by calling one of their care consultants. Click here to read the newsletter.
– Check out the service Lotsa Helping Hands where friends, family members and neighbors may offer to lend a hand with caregiving.
– Click here to read the What Now book, which provides help on making changes in behavior, making financial decisions, and helping your loved one with daily caregiving activities.
– Are you feeling overwhelmed as a caregiver? You may be experiencing caregiver burnout, which can be very debilitating and potentially harmful to your health. Take the Caregiver Stress Check to find out where you stand.
– The Alzheimer’s Association’s ALZConnected forum is a great resource for caregivers to communicate with each other online. Share thoughts, questions and experiences to receive help and give advice to other caregivers.
– If you have questions regarding caregiving or want to speak to someone about your caregiving experiences, the Alzheimer’s Association provides a 24-hour helpline for caregivers: 800.272.3900
*For more information, visit the Alzheimer’s Association website.
How can Oxnard Family Circle ADHC help you?
Oxnard Family Circle provides caregiver support groups on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 2pm until 3pm. We discuss questions that you might have, provide resources and give caregivers an opportunity to share their experiences with one another.
