Understanding the Types of Dementia

Dementia is a general term referring to memory loss and diminished cognitive skills that interfere with daily functioning. The most common types seen in the elderly are:

  • Alzheimer’s Disease: Steady progression of memory, thinking, and behavior impairment. Caused by brain cell damage and death.
  • Vascular Dementia: Impaired cognition caused by reduced blood flow to brain tissue, often tied to stroke or cardiovascular issues.
  • Lewy Body Dementia: Fluctuating confusion, recall issues, visual hallucinations, and movement difficulties. Related to abnormal protein deposits in the brain.
  • Frontotemporal Dementia: Personality, emotional, language, and behavioral changes. Associated with frontal and temporal lobe damage.

No two seniors experience dementia in precisely the same way. Proper diagnosis by a medical professional is key to understanding each senior’s unique care needs.

Oxnard Family Circle officially opened its doors in July of 2002.  Since then, Oxnard Family Circle Adult Day Health Care Center has been striving to be the best provider of Adult Day Healthcare.  We treat all patients with a caring attitude and phenomenal service.

The Break Family Caregivers Need

Caring full-time for a senior with declining memory who requires constant supervision to prevent wandering or accidents takes a tremendous toll.

Adult day health services offer the caregiver time to rest and recharge. They can relax knowing their loved one is safe at the center while they run errands, go to appointments, socialize with friends, or simply take a nap.

Adult day health memory care helps seniors live at home longer while improving the quality of life for them and their caregivers. Centers like Oxnard Family Circle allow families to manage dementia symptoms more effectively.

You can enjoy engaging in activities and form meaningful connections with others in a safe, supportive environment at an adult daycare center.

From arts and crafts to music therapy and exercise classes, these activities allow participants to build relationships with other members of the center and form strong bonds with the staff.

Social activities like picnics and outings also provide an opportunity for participants to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with their peers.

Participating in support groups is also a great way for adults to find companionship and share experiences with others who understand their situation.

These activities at adult day care centers also provide a way for participants to practice the activities of daily living. Whether it’s cooking, cleaning, or grooming, the activities provided in the center help adults develop the skills they need to live independently.
