Types of Pain Treated
The two major categories of pain are acute and chronic pain. Knowing which type of pain you or your loved one have will help determine the type of care that is necessary to use.
Acute Pain: Pain that results from an injury or surgery are examples of acute pain. This type of pain is generally temporary and will last for several minutes or several weeks. Acute pain goes away with natural healing and is treated with medication and therapy.
Chronic Pain: Chronic pain is a type of pain that remains beyond the time of normal healing. Chronic pain can result from an injury that did not allow proper healing. Arthritis, nerve damage and other illnesses such as cancer can cause chronic pain. This type of pain will last six months or longer and is generally found in the neck, lower back, and joins. Migraine headaches are also examples of chronic pain. Chronic pain requires special attention and a variety of treatment options are available for managing it.
Pain interferes with various aspects of one’s life. One’s physical, psychological and social capabilities are affected by pain which can ultimately cause depression and other problems. Controlling and managing pain is very important for the quality of life you live. Our pain management center in Ventura County works closely with the individual to control any type of pain while home caregivers are away or need respite care.
